Snap inc. Introduces Spectacles!

Snapchat does what it does best and alleviates their users use of the platform. They are introducing sunglasses that takes snaps, called spectacles!

Spectacles are sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories.

We’ve created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses – available in 3 different colors!

Spectacles are K.I.S.S!

Sunglasses with camera, storage and battery. Brilliant. I appreciate how simple & single-purpose the product is. You don’t have to use your phone but you can still snap.

Hurray for the responsive emails, now we can set-up device-aware campaigns to Gmail accounts.

When you send emails, your recipients might read them on a computer, tablet, or phone—or more likely, all three. However your message might look different on all these devices. Later this month, you’ll be able to use CSS media queries with Gmail and Inbox by Gmail to ensure that your message is formatted the way you intended, whether it’s viewed on a computer, a phone in portrait mode, or a tablet in landscape mode. You’ll be able to change styles based on width, rotation, and resolution, allowing for more responsive formatting to optimize your email for every device.

Turkish Airlines is catering startups to pitch it’s biz class passengers

Turkish Airlines is letting starts pitch to business class passengers during flights via fastco.

When Turkish Airlines wanted to promote its country’s tech industry, it decided to do something different. Its new Invest On Board program streams pitch videos from startups to in-seat televisions for business class passengers.

Have to admit, this is a neat idea. Actually one of the rare few neat things thats happening about THY.

Betteridge’s law of headlines

Excellent adage pointing out a tactic showing how journalists rub people of their attention with headlines.

This story is a great demonstration of my maxim that any headline which ends in a question mark can be answered by the word “no.” The reason why journalists use that style of headline is that they know the story is probably bullshit, and don’t actually have the sources and facts to back it up, but still want to run it.

Data, solving real-life problems

One of the largest cities public transportation map is redrawn digitally in Ivory Coast, using anonymised mobile data.

This project is part of a competition from Orange (Orange Data for Development).

I have interpreted the news article as follows: an easy as 1,2,3 scientific solution to help masses of people.

1. step

They concentrated on bus routes in Abidjan, Ivory Coast’s largest city, where the network is made up of 539 large buses, complemented by 5,000 mini-buses and 11,000 shared taxis.

2. step

While this data is less accurate than GPS data, it provided enough information for the researchers to conclude that the city needed to add two routes to its existing infrastructure and extend another.

3. step

“We found that we could reduce the travel times of people by 10% across the city”

Ridiculous CRM example

A user uninstalls an app named Path (www).

“…he found that Path had gone on a rogue mission early in the morning, texting and robocalling an unknown number of his contacts, including his grandparents.

By the time Kenwright got to work, it became clear that Path had gotten in touch with his entire phone book. Coworkers, friends, and family were asking him about the text or phone call they’d received from Path, which stated that Kenwright wanted to share photos with them.”

As a response representatives from Path said;

“the messages are a feature, not a bug.”

A feature that benefits the application, not the user. This is a hilarious way to put it.

Currently using this app, and I find the way customers are being treated quite repulsive. Shame though, I am afraid to uninstall the app.
